Every year for our anniversary Neil and I like to take the time to do a getaway. Before kids it was often to Boston for a weekend of dining, drinks and going to bed at 10pm – what can I say we’ve always been wild. Since moving to the West Coast and having kids we have taken our anniversary weekend to the Oregon Coast.
This year I was afraid we wouldn’t be able to make our annual anniversary trip due to the fact that I would be 36 weeks along and travel can be a bit more of a challenge but I checked in with my midwife and she gave us the green light to go. We made a last minute reservation at a hotel in Astoria, packed up the kids, and headed to the coast with our first stop being the beach at Fort Stevens State Park.
Despite it being a beautiful sunny afternoon it was windy and a bit cool but that of course didn’t stop the kids from testing out the water. I stayed wrapped up in a beach towel in my Tommy Bahamas chair while Edith and Neil chased the waves. After testing the water for himself Alder decided that building sandcastles next to me was a much better idea than taking on the cold ocean so we built castles together.
After a few hours at the beach chasing waves, building sandcastles, sliding down sand piles and checking out the shipwreck we packed up and headed north to Astoria for our last night away as a family of four.
